Strings at Carroll
Welcome to the award-winning String program at Bishop Carroll!
We have 4 string orchestra ensembles ranging from beginner to pre-professional:
Ensemble Eruditio (Beginner Strings)
“Eruditio” is Latin for instruction, teaching, knowledge, learning
Ensemble Intermezzo
“Intermezzo” is Italian for intermediate, in between, a musical interlude
Cantabile Strings
“Cantabile” is Italian for in a singing style, flowing, melodious
Virtuosi Strings
“Virtuosi” (plural of virtuoso) is Italian for a person highly skilled
in a musical or artistic pursuit

Ensembles are comprised of the orchestral strings: violin, viola, cello and double bass

String ensembles rehearse 3 hours per week during the school day

School instruments are available to rent

Auditions for students with experience playing their instrument take place in early September

All ensembles participate in the Christmas and Spring concerts, as well as our annual “String Fling” in February

Clinicians from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Mount Royal University Conservatory faculty work with our string students

Earn up to 30 high school credits by taking Strings!
